Chief Executive
Alec Gilbert joined the Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC) as Chief Executive in June 2006. He came to Adelaide from South Africa, where he was CEO of the International Convention Centre Durban (ICC Durban). Alec’s work at ICC Durban was recognised when he was awarded the IMEX Academy Award in Frankfurt in 2006.
Since arriving in Adelaide, the ACC has undergone a major rebranding exercise and developed a culture of “Gold Service – Green Attitude”. The ACC has recently been ranked as the best in Australia by the Meetings and Events Association. It has also recently received awards for its Corporate Social Responsibility Program (London), the Silver IMEX Green Supplier Award (Frankfurt) and the AIPC Innovation Award, recognising “Exemplary Achievement in Convention Centre Management” (a Coruna - Spain). It was also the first convention centre in Australia to be awarded Green Globe Silver status.
At EIBTM in December 2009, the ACC was also highly commended for the “Sustainable Initiative for the Year” Award.
Alec serves on the Board of ICCA and is also the chairman of the “Venues Sector” of that association.
